Is Fast Food New Tobbacco? Summary and Respond

Fast food is the new tobacco. Because fast food is very convenient and fast food, its characteristics are high fat, high salt, high sugar, and a lot of seasoning, low fiber food, containing a lot of artificial additives. The nutrition provided by fast food is unbalanced, focusing only on meat, sugar and fats, and lacking in the supply of vegetables and fruits. Long-term use will lead to nutritional imbalance. Over time, many diseases can develop. But even though the health and safety risks of fast food are great, it is still the first choice of many people. For me, fast food is the next best thing to all food choices. But there is no denying that fast food is very convenient, and the taste of heavy oil and salt can easily cause me to feel satisfied. But on top of that fast food is still very harmful to the body. In my childhood, my mother would have been angry if I chose to eat junk food because I had a craving. Because it was obvious that those foods were a threat to my health. So now that I'm an adult, I still think about all aspects of fast food and choose healthier food.

According to 2018 statistics, the United States is known as the birthplace of McDonald's, Coca-Cola and doughnuts. Currently 31.8% of the population is obese. Fast food is the biggest contributor to this eternal problem. Fast food has a negative impact on our society, mainly because it is always easily accessible and low cost. There is a percentage of children who have developed tastes from an early age. I think people tend to be affected by each other's health in different ways, in large part because humans are herd animals. Therefore, people should care about each other's health, because such a move might prevent certain health crises by intervening in citizens' consumption habits. The government should do its best to dispose of "food deserts" by providing more opportunities for people to lead healthy lifestyles and giving tax breaks to those who sell healthy foods.

The problem of obesity should be the responsibility of the individual, not the government to regulate their own health. As the article "What you eat is your business" Balko states, "Instead of manipulating or intervening in the array of food options available to American consumers, our government ought to be working to foster a sense of responsibility in and ownership of our health and well-being. " The author's argument is that all consumers should have the freedom to choose what foods they eat, and that attempts to impose oversight are counterproductive. When people have to face the consequences of their unhealthy diets, then they will make healthier dietary choices. Because the American health care system is moving toward socialism, for example, laws have been passed that require some people to pay for other people's medical bills. I agree with the author's position that obesity is a personal problem that should be left to them and that the government should not try to change or manipulate the type of food available to consumers.
